Turner Memorial Scholarship

The Tamyra Kaye Turner Memorial Scholarship was established in 2022 to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in Liberal Arts and General Studies at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Tamyra, a former professor of English Literature at PVCC, was heavily involved in her community, serving as an active member of the Albemarle-Charlottesville NAACP Branch, as well as serving on the Charlottesville School Board, the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, the Jefferson Madison Regional Library, and the Virginia Festival of the Book steering committee. She founded the City of Charlottesville's Juneteenth Celebration in 2000, which was held at PVCC until 2016. The fund was created in memory of Tamyra by the Charlottesville-Albemarle NAACP Branch and in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the college and the local community.
